Minister Tran Hong Minh urges faster progress on sustainable transport, smart city plans
At a meeting on July 14, the Minister instructed all relevant departments to implement Resolution 57 of the Politburo on innovation and digital transformation, and Directive 20 of the Prime Minister on environmental protection.
Key priorities include developing unified planning standards for underground infrastructure, drainage systems, power lines, sidewalks, and the use of eco-friendly construction materials. The Minister also encouraged the use of cold recycling technologies in urban and national road construction to reduce environmental impact.

Minister Tran Hong Minh instructs ministry officials to accelerate tasks under Resolution 57 during a meeting in Hanoi.
"We must avoid the situation where newly built roads are dug up again for underground works. Everything must be synchronized from the start", he stressed.
To address urban flooding, the Minister emphasized careful technical design even for small structures like manholes, based on local rainfall data.
The Ministry is also working on a national set of smart city criteria tailored to Vietnam’s context, to be completed by August 30 for internal review.
On key infrastructure projects, the Minister urged project boards to accelerate supporting components for the 2021–2025 North–South Expressway, including toll stations, ITS systems, and rest areas. He required bidding documents for toll station technology packages to be published by July 20.
"Select reputable consulting firms to ensure transparency and quality", he directed.
Five approved road tunnel projects were also mentioned, with orders to proceed quickly with contractor selection.
