Announcement of USAID-funded projects for people with disabilities support in Quang Tri province

This morning, September 1, 2021, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province in coordination with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam and the National Action Center for Toxic Chemicals and Environment Treatments (NACCET) held a virtual announcement ceremony of people with disabilities supporting projects (PWDs) in Quang Tri province funded by USAID through the Center for Creative Initiatives in Health and Population (CCIHP) and the Center for Action for the Community Development (ACDC). Vice- Chairman of the People's Committee Hoang Nam, Director of USAID Vietnam Ann Marie Yastishock, and representatives of NACCET, CCIHP, ACDC, Vietnam Federation of People with Disabilities attended the ceremony.

Two funded projects are " Improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange" project (Inclusion project - I) and "Strengthening opportunities, and empowering people with disabilities position - II” project (RVCO - II project).

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Director of USAID Vietnam Ann Marie Yastishock highly appreciated the leadership and effective cooperation of Quang Tri province in mutual cooperation projects between the two countries. She also emphasized the importance of the partnership between USAID and NACCET the integrated project management .

Regarding the RVCO - II project, two sides will continue to cooperate, create positive changes in awareness and attitudes to people with disabilities, strengthen the capacity of organizations and improve policies to remove barriers to people with disabilities. The project main activities include: Improve physical access at construction sites, public transport, health and social services, support to participate in social life, advocate policies on equality and rights of people with disabilities.

For the Inclusion I project with a total funding of up to 65 million USD, being implemented in 8 provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange, including Quang Tri, the project will focus on implementation of 4 goals, including: expand health support and rehabilitation services, improving health and quality of life of people with disabilities; expand social services, strengthening social integration support and direct support to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities; improve policies and public attitudes, reduce barriers, ensure social integration of people with disabilities; strengthen capacity for management, implementation and support activities for people with disabilities at all levels.

On behalf of the leaders of Quang Tri province, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam thanked USAID for giving the province many meaningful and practical support and requested the USAID and NACCET to complete the feasibility study report soon, submit to the competent authorities for approval of the Inclusion I project, and get it implementation as planned. For the RVCO - II project, he requested the Provincial Department of Health, the Association for the Protection of People with Disability and Children’s Rights, and Agent Orange Victims, and relevant agencies continue to closely cooperate with the ACDC office in Quang Tri, urgently complete the appraisal and approval procedures, and ensure not delay the project implementation.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also suggested partner organizations, project cooperation directly implementing in Quang Tri work closely with relevant provincial agencies to ensure the achievement of the set project objectives.
