Deputy Minister Nguyen Viet Hung: Ensure fully digital transformation of maritime safety
On May 9th, the 70 years of Vietnam's Maritime Safety Day (May 15, 1955 - May 15, 2025) ceremony was held with the topic 'Leading mission'. At the ceremony, the decision to establish Vietnam Maritime Safety Corporation was also announced.

Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Viet Hung requested that the sector continue restructuring to enhance efficiency.
At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Viet Hung stressed that one important mark beginning the development of maritime safety was the takeover of the Hon Dau and Long Chau lighthouse. Only 5 days later, the pilots successfully guided two French ships safely into Hai Phong Port - the first clear demonstration of the sector’s essential role in ensuring the safety of maritime routes.
According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Viet Hung, as the country implements the Marine Economic Development Strategy and carries out the Government’s Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation, the maritime safety sector needs comprehensive reform.
"These major directives will serve as important guiding principles to enhance national productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness. The sector must take the lead in innovation, requiring every officer and employee to be creative, bold in thinking, and courageous in action", he emphasized.

The Deputy Minister announced the decision to establish Vietnam Maritime Safety Corporation.
The merger of the Northern and Southern Maritime Safety Corporations into the Vietnam Maritime Safety Corporation was assessed by the Deputy Minister as a turning point that reflects a spirit of reform, streamlining of the organizational structure, and enhancement of operational efficiency and effectiveness. At the same time, it presents an opportunity for the sector to accelerate technology adoption and continue advancing in the digital era.
The Deputy Minister requested the corporation to focus on modernizing technical facilities, investing in synchronization of maritime support systems and upgrading maritime safety services on digital platforms. In addition, it is necessary to fully digitalize, effectively exploit datas and artificial intelligence, develop an intelligent monitoring and management system, continue restructuring to improve efficiency and implement digital management models.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the development of qualified human resources, focusing on building teams of engineers and experts with strong technological expertise and professional working styles to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the sector.
